News Round-Up

From TSN:

Chicago Blackhawks left wing Ben Eager has been suspended for three games, without pay, as a result of being assessed a match penalty during a game against the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

As a result, Eager will forfeit $9,677.43 with the money going to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Midway through the third period, Eager was assessed a match penalty for attempting to injure Sean Avery. At the time of the incident, Eager was on the players’ bench and swung his stick in the direction of Avery, who was on the ice.

Eager will miss the Blackhawks first three games and will be eligible to return on Oct. 15 against the Phoenix Coyotes.

From Andrew’s Star Page:

Doug Janik has apparently been taken off waivers by Chicago.

The Stars had only 19 players practicing today, but Chris Conner wasn’t one of them. He was in the building, so I assume he is probably going to get assigned to the AHL when all the dust gets settled later today.

Also goalie Brent Krahn was out on the ice again today. He is still awaiting medical clearance before he officially joins the organization.

From DMN’s Stars Blog:

Jere Lehtinen (groin) did not practice and didn’t even skate on his own. He’s still listed as day-to-day, but doesn’t appear to be day-to-day.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but all of this roster shuffling and cap wrangling has got me on the edge of my seat today. Also, interesting that Chicago has reclaimed Janik – it’s like we just borrowed him for a short little expirement –  and is Krahn replacing Stephan as a backup goalie? Nobody seems to know. Finally, hate on Avery all you want, but his chirping has already led to a match penalty and suspension for one of our rivals, and regular season hasn’t even started for us. No matter how you feel about him personally, at least he’s doing what we brought him here to do.
